Bernini Solutions LLC | Principal (2022-present)

  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to clients about their institutions’ digital transformations.
  • Evaluate structural impediments that prevent the best use of human labor, budget, and time.
  • Design specific solutions for executing a digital strategy, with a focus on project management, product development, and organizational structure.

Folger Shakespeare Library | Director of Digital Access (Chief Digital Officer) (2013-2022)

  • Served as a member of the senior leadership team by collaborating with peer directors, liaising with the Board of Governors, and leading the Digital Media and Publications division.
  • Developed and implemented the strategies for digital publishing, infrastructure, and analytics, as well as the traditional publishing and digital humanities programs.
  • Initiated and directed public-facing digital applications which collectively hosted over 4 million annual visitors in 2022 (a ~200% increase over 2013).
  • Drove performance improvements for well-established publications such as the Folger Shakespeare Editions, with sales growth of over 25%, and a 1,000% surge in online usage.
  • Shaped new partnerships with individuals and institutions in the U.S. and abroad, including universities in India, Japan, and the UK.
  • Directed multiple grants with a cumulative value of $2.5 million, and as an advisor to other external and internal grants.
  • Negotiated and executed contracts with a wide range of vendors, contractors, universities, and other partners.
  • Managed the Folger’s intellectual property; licensed IP from other organizations; coordinated legal assistance when necessary.

Phase2 Technology | Project Manager (2011-2012)

  • Led multidisciplinary project teams to deliver multiple high-profile applications, such as FEMA.gov, Ready.gov, and the state of Georgia’s official portal.
  • Realized approximately 30% of the company’s revenue through these projects.

NavigationArts | Senior Consultant (2009-2011)

  • Led institution-wide projects for a diverse mix of public- and private-sector clients.
  • Directed developers, information architects, designers, and other practitioners.
  • Managed a project portfolio valued at $3.1 million, and captured $2.3 million in new contracts.

The World Bank | Consultant/Project Manager (2009)

  • Drafted a strategy for improving the World Bank Institute’s project-management practices.
  • Created a knowledge-management and reporting platform for internal use within the World Bank Institute.
  • Led project teams that completed public-facing websites for three offices within the World Bank.

U.S. Department of State | Content Management Team Lead (2004-2009)

  • Created two enterprise-level digital publishing programs for the Office of eDiplomacy, and played a strategic role in other State Department programs.
  • Conducted consultations and training with 14 embassies and consulates, and briefed over 20 Federal agencies on State Department IT programs.
  • Led a nine-member team that developed and deployed collaborative tools to support interagency communication and knowledge management.

Washington Times / United Press International | Development Manager (1999-2004)

  • Implemented a unified digital publishing strategy for multiple news products.
  • Constructed an online publishing system for the Times and UPI which published news stories to a monthly audience of over 4 million users.
  • Oversaw two teams of editors and developers who supported a 24-hour news cycle.

Military Experience

U.S. Marine Corps Reserve | Assistant Communications Chief (1991-2004)

  • Served as detachment communications chief for a civil affairs team during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Supported an infantry battalion during combat operations, as well as humanitarian operations.
  • Trained as a Civil Affairs Specialist and Field Radio Operator.
  • Final rank was Staff Sergeant. 
  • Awards include Navy Achievement Medal (with combat “V”) and Combat Action Ribbon.

Education

M.A. English, George Mason University

  • Concentration in professional writing and editing.
  • Created a thesis project, Open Source Shakespeare, which combines Shakespeare’s complete works with a concordance and robust search mechanism. OSS has served over 20 million researchers, teachers, students, and enthusiasts.

B.A. History, James Madison University

  • Minors in Art History and Theater.
  • Graduated cum laude.
