About Eric

Eric Johnson is a motivated, thoughtful leader for organizations that wish to deepen their digital and publishing offerings.

He directs initiatives that reach millions of people, and cultivates useful tools for specialized audiences.

He is highly experienced in building the teams, technical foundations, and long-term partnerships that enable organizations to execute their strategies.


Eric is currently heading a consultancy, Bernini Solutions, that leverages his record of innovation, accomplishment, and effective leadership for the benefit of his clients. He is currently an affiliate faculty member at George Mason University.

For a decade, Eric led publications and digital initiatives at the Folger Shakespeare Library. Before that, he worked in the news media, the U.S. Department of State, the World Bank, and private-sector web development firms.

Eric is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and was decorated for his participation in the Iraq War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant after 13 years of reserve service.

While receiving his M.A. in English from George Mason University, Eric created Open Source Shakespeare, one of the most widely-used Shakespeare sites in the world. He also holds a degree in history from James Madison University.

Eric lives in Virginia with his wife, Paige, and their four children.
